Nintendo Direct 18th June 2024

Nintendo has just dropped some bombshells in their latest direct which have cause some interesting sounds from the TYG bullpen. Here are a few of our favourite reveals.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership

The first original Mario & Luigi game in nine years, we see the titular Mario Brothers return in an all new story.

Nintendo World Championships NES Edition

This entry looks like a challenge compilation of classic NES titles in a similar vein to the gold cartridge Nintendo made in 1990.

FAIRY TAIL 2

A sequel to Fairy Tale game, this RPG appears to be adapted from the final story arc of the series.

FANTASIAN Neo Dimension

From the collective fathers of Final Fantasy comes Fantasian, a turn-based JRPG originally exclusive to Apple Arcade.

MIO: Memories in Orbit

From Focus comes MIO, an original 2D Metroidvania with sci-fi elements.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure

I told the team “we have Animal Crossing at home” but it fell on deaf ears as they were all swept up with the cuteness of Hello Kitty. Who can blame them after looking at the trailer for this cosy sim game.

Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports

Looney Tunes explode onto the Switch with a cooperative and competitive sports title with your favourite Looney Tunes characters.

Farmagia

From the reveal, Farmagia looks like an interesting blend of farming sim and Pikmin battles. It features character designs from Hiro Masahima of Fairy Tale.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD appears to be a port of the Wii title. It looks to be faithful to the original, but let’s hope they’ve removed those awful motion control features.

DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake

Dragon Quest III is a long awaited remake of the beloved classic JRPG, but wait… There’s more: DRAGON QUEST I-II HD-2D Remake

Funko Fusion

Following in the footsteps of many a Lego collaboration, Funko are taking to console with Funko Fusion. This is quite an intriguing release as Funko seems to have a wide range of IP’s to choose from in the open sandbox adventure.

THE NEW DENPA MEN

Denpa Men is one of the weirder titles from 3DS era. In this Direct it was announced that it will now be free to play.

METAL SLUG ATTACK RELOADED

This is a port the mobile Metal Slug game which was recently discontinued. The original had adverts and gatcha mechanics, so it will be interesting to see how this console version compares.

Darkest Dungeon II

One of the most brutal strategy/RPG games I have ever played returns. Darkest Dungeon II is here to torment us all.

Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero

The Lost Hero is the latest entry in the Phantom Brave series. This RPG features tactical game-play and is set for release in 2025.

MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics

Capcom came out swinging with their “Fighting Collection“. This encompasses a lot of classic “Marvel” and “VS” titles from Capcom’s past in one collection.

Super Mario Party Jamboree

With a new Mario Party comes new ways to lose your friends and loved ones. Super Mario Party Jamboree sets up to 20 players against each other in this ultimate chaos game.

From the creators of Danganronpa comes The Hundred Line – Last Defense Academy. This appears to be a blend of tower defense and tactics gaming with visual novel storytelling.

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven

A from the ground remake of the classic 1993 RPG, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven arrives later this year. Boasting a new turn-based time-line gaming mechanic, it’s likely to shoot to the top of many RPG games TBC list.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

As their surprise final announcement, we finally got a first look at Metroid Prime 4. Showcasing new locations, enemies and flashy new graphics, the trailer promises an exception game in the making, but will it be worth the wait?
