  • Adaptations in all but name

    Adaptations in all but name

With the breakout success of Helldivers II, I revisited the movie Starship Troopers. Aside from the main premise, shooting bugs on alien worlds, the two properties share quite a few more similarities, parodying the war economy satirising propaganda and “managed democracy” so much so that aside from the name Helldivers II is a perfect game adaptation of the movie…

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth – Review

It’s hard to be the second in a trilogy. You don’t have the same benefit of the world-building and exciting introduction of the first, nor the satisfying wrap-up and climax of the third. Add onto all of this being a reimagining of one of the most critically acclaimed and beloved games of all time, and…

    Echo (series) – Review

I’m not quite feeling the same Marvel fatigue as others seem to be, but I can understand how the sheer volume of shows and movies coupled with an incredible variation in quality can put people off. Especially with yet another show spun off from an earlier one with a relatively more obscure character in the…

The Tuvok-verse. The Star Trek Fan-films Directed by Tim Russ

I love a good rabbit hole, to me they are fascinating. I feel like an archaeologist discovering a hidden culture and who has to explore every facet and origin.  So, I was exploring IMDB searching for Star Trek media, when I came across a series called Star Trek Renegades from 2015. Not knowing what it…

    My Problem With Palworld

We here at TYG are always looking for the next great multiplayer game and the opportunity presented by Palworld was one we were much anticipating. Ebenezer and The Invisible World – Review
Ebenezer and The Invisible World – Review

Everybody Loves a Christmas Carol, it’s a literary classic with multiple adaptations over the years, from animated movies to live-action performances even going as far as modern style take during the late 90’s with Bill Murray’s Scrooged, and yet how many games are there? After a small search, all I could find was a video adaption of Disney’s A Christmas Carol and that seemed to be about it. Well, fellow readers look no further as we now have Ebenezer and The Invisible World! The game begins with a rather long series of static images with text setting up the story […]

Towers and Powers – Review
Towers and Powers – Review

Towers and Powers is a VR tower defence game with some interesting mechanics of its own. From your godlike position up above, you’ll build towers by purchasing some citizens and placing them on predetermined platforms. Each little guy has a different profession and so builds a different tower with different strengths and weaknesses, as you’d expect of the genre. It doesn’t stop there though as towers can have up to three floors, built in the same way but each floor adds to the capabilities of the tower. Create a tower from three basic villagers and you’ll have an arrow tower […]

Under Cover -Meta Quest 2- Review
Under Cover -Meta Quest 2- Review

Light gun games or on-rail shooters were a staple of any arcade in the 90s. From games like Mad Dog McCree, House of the Dead and Virtua Cop, one particular stand-out title was Namco’s Time Crisis which included a pedal you used to duck and reload adding a new gameplay element rather than just stand there and shoot. The home market had a handful of these titles but they were often unplayable without a pricey accessory. Now, with the advent of motion controls and affordable VR, I always thought that the time was right for the genre to make a comeback, and I’m not the only […]
