Taking a look at possible Monster Hunter Wilds Collaborations

Monster Hunter Wilds has landed. The latest title from the popular Monster Hunter Series boulders onto modern consoles, and like previous entries, the first of many “Title Updates” has been released. These Title Updates bring with them new Monsters and new challenges to evolve the gameplay over time, giving the series a feeling of evolution and natural progression of the world it inhabits.

Among these title updates, we do get fun little nods to other games with “collaborative events”. By participating in these events you can get armour, skins or weapons from other games to dress your hunter in upon completion.

Within the Title Update One roadmap set for the end of May, there was the simple note “Capcom Collaboration” meaning we are getting a crossover with another Capcom title. With nothing else to go over, we Monster Hunters in TYG decided to put our heads together and see if we could predict what it could be while taking a look back at Capcom collaborations of the past.

Our Predictions

Street Fighter

Street Fighter 6 is releasing a new character “Elana” shortly and Monster Hunter and Street Fighter have probably the most collaborations over the most games so this is the most likely candidate. What we would get though would most probably be a skin unlockable through an arena quest as Elana’s capoeira fighting style does not translate to weapons very well The closest weapons might be the dual blades or they could go another route, instead using music to fight, which might translate over to the hunting horn nicely.

Onimusha

Capcom has been revisiting its Onimusha series as of late, with a new title announced and Onimusha 2 now getting a remaster/remake. So an Onimusha crossover isn’t too far from the realms of possibility considering it has happened before in Frontiers. A new skin would be epic, but Onimusha uses a range of weapons which could mean a new Long sword, a Great Sword or even an Insect Glaive.

Devil May Cry

The Devil May Cry anime has just been released and has pushed the series back into the public eye. Monster Hunter has collaborated with Devil May Cry on more than one occasion giving us skins to use, but again the range of weapons has remained relatively untouched. Lady’s rocket launcher (Kalina Ann) could be a bow gun, Devil Sword Sparda could be a Switch Axe etc, any of which could be cool.

Dino Crisis

Ok, so this is stretching it a little bit, but Capcom has released the classic Dino Crisis games on GOG, so again it’s not out there. Plus, we already have the Tyrannosaurus Rex-looking Anjanath in the base game so a simple reskin for a mission would be possible. This would be the first time both series have acknowledged each other, which is surprising given the similarities with their enemies.

Mega Man

While there doesn’t appear to be anything Mega Man related upon the immediate horizon, Mega Man is one of the most crossed-over titles after Street Fighter, often giving our Palicoes or in Monster Hunter Rise’s case Palemute costumes. On one occasion though, Monster Hunter Explore, we got armour for both X and Zero.

Diving Deeper

While these were our most likely predictions I decided to continue going down the rabbit hole and pull some of the other Capcom collaborations of the past.

Okami

While I hold little hope for this one, it was nice of Capcom to acknowledge this cult classic title back in Monster Hunter Generations and in Rise with an Amaterasu Skin for our Palico and Palamute (complete with bouncing Issun).

Resident Evil

Another flagship Capcom title, Resident Evil has had two crossover events, once in Monster Hunter Explore and another in World. Each gave us unique monsters to hunt and costumes to dress our hunter and companions with.

Ghosts and Goblins

Ghosts and Goblins has not had a new title in years but it still manages to be involved in a lot of other Capcom titles. Monster Hunter is no exception with the series hero Arthur turning up in two Monster Hunter titles as skins.

DarkStalkers

The niche Street Fighter stepchild also has been represented more than once in both Monster Hunter Explore and Frontier. Fans will no doubt remember fondly how Frontier gave us costumes for both Demitri and Morrigan.

Breath of Fire

Capcom’s in-house JRPG was celebrated with hunter skins and weapons in Monster Hunter Frontier. The series has been relatively quiet as of late so chances of this happening again now are low.

Dead Rising

I was not expecting a Dead Rising crossover, but Frontier delivered us costumes and unique weapons from Dead Rising 2. The original game did get a deluxe remaster not too long ago but I honestly can’t see that being high on the list.

Strider

The cult classic arcade title Strider often gets a nod in many Capcom crossovers with Monster Hunter being no exception. Hunters can don Strider Hiryu’s threads and use his blade in Generations

Ace Attorney: Phoenix Wright

Ok, this I definitely was not expecting but Explore and Frontier gave us costumes and really bizarre weapons celebrating the Ace Attorney series. These gave some much enjoyed comic relief with these collaborations.

Monster Hunter (Movie)

While not a game, Monster Hunter World did celebrate the release of the Monster Hunter movie with a unique quest and some Mila Jovanich skins for your Hunter.

Lost Planet

This is more of a special mention as I’m not going to mention every game that has included Monster Hunter in themselves but the Lost Planet series doesn’t get enough love. Players of Lost Planet 2 could get a Rathalos armour skin for their characters giving us this awesome shot of a hunter with a chaingun.

Conclusion

This was in no way a comprehensive list as I’m sure some escaped our investigation and this is only what Capcom have done in-house the full list of collaborations with other companies is staggering.

So what do you think? Are we close in our estimates or are there other titles we missed? Either way, are you looking forward to finding out what Capcom delivers? We will see if we are close at the end of May.
