When Genshin Impact first arrived in 2020, few expected a free-to-play game to feel so expansive, alive, and emotionally engaging. Created by HoYoverse, it combines open-world exploration, fast-paced elemental combat, and character-driven storytelling into a continually evolving adventure that keeps players coming back with every update.

A World Waiting to Be Explored
You begin as the Traveler, separated from your twin sibling and thrust into the world of Teyvat. Your journey takes you across seven elemental nations, each inspired by different real-world cultures, as you search for your lost sibling and unravel the mysteries surrounding the gods known as the Archons.
Exploration is Genshin Impact’s heart. Climbing cliffs, gliding over landscapes, and discovering hidden chests feels rewarding and natural. Each region — from the lush meadows of Mondstadt to the breathtaking cherry blossom vistas of Inazuma — feels like a living, breathing place.

Elemental Combat and Party Synergy
Combat is fast-paced and built around swapping between a party of four characters to trigger elemental reactions. Combining Pyro, Hydro, Electro, and other elements creates powerful effects — setting enemies ablaze, freezing them in place, or causing massive explosions.
The system encourages experimentation. Whether you prefer sword-wielding DPS characters, elemental supports, or bow users, there’s a character and playstyle to fit you.

Characters You’ll Love (and Collect)
One of the game’s strongest points is its character writing and design. From the cheerful glider-obsessed Amber to the enigmatic Raiden Shogun, each character feels distinct with unique abilities, personalities, and stories.
Of course, characters are obtained via the game’s gacha system, which can be both exciting and frustrating. Pulling for your favourite five-star character is a thrill, but luck doesn’t always play nicely, something players should be aware of.

A World That Never Stops Expanding
HoYoverse continues to add new regions, quests, and events. Major updates feel like mini expansions, often bringing entirely new areas to explore. This ongoing support has kept the game fresh for years and ensures there’s always something new to do — whether it’s solving puzzles in the desert ruins of Sumeru or battling weekly bosses for rare materials.

Beautiful Visuals and Music
Simply put, Genshin Impact is one of the most visually stunning free-to-play games ever made. Its anime-inspired art style and lush environments are paired with an incredible orchestral soundtrack. Each region has its own musical identity, from Mondstadt’s European-inspired tunes to Sumeru’s Middle Eastern and South Asian influences.

Free-to-Play Done Right (Mostly)
The game is free to play and very generous with its early content, but late-game progression can feel grindy. Resin limits (used for farming materials) and gacha pull rates are the biggest points of criticism. That said, it’s absolutely possible to enjoy the game and complete most content without spending money.

Final Thoughts
Genshin Impact is more than a game; it’s an ever-expanding adventure. Its combination of exploration, character-driven storytelling, and beautiful presentation makes it a standout in modern gaming.
Whether you log in casually to explore or dive deep into meta team-building and Spiral Abyss challenges, there’s always something new to experience in Teyvat.
If you love open-world RPGs, anime aesthetics, or character-driven adventures, Genshin Impact is well worth your time, and it’s free to try.

One of the things that puts many of from gacha based gameplay is the perceived to win aspect of such games.
But I’ve often considered getting Genshin Impact.
This might tip me closer to grabbing it.
