I ended up binge-watching the entire second season of One Piece in a single day, and honestly, I don’t regret it for a second. Season two takes everything that worked in the first season and expands it in exciting ways, introducing new locations, new characters, and some memorable emotional moments along the way.

A World That Keeps Growing
One of the things I loved most about this season is how much bigger the world feels. The journey takes the Straw Hat crew through several iconic locations from the series, including Loguetown, Little Garden, and the snowy kingdom of Drum Kingdom.
Each place feels distinct, visually interesting, and full of its own atmosphere. Loguetown brings that sense of how Gol D. Roger started the new pirate era and how his life ended, while Little Garden adds adventure and mystery with a trip to a prehistoric time long forgotten. Drum Kingdom, however, is where the season really shines emotionally, a kingdom abandoned by their cruel king as the evil pirate Blackbeard arrived until he’s had his fill and finally leaves Drum Kingdom.

Great Casting Choices
The casting continues to be one of the live-action adaptation’s biggest strengths. The actors playing Nefertari Vivi and Nico Robin fit their roles incredibly well, capturing the personalities fans love while still making the characters feel grounded in this live-action world.
It’s clear the showrunners put a lot of care into finding actors who truly understand these characters. I can’t wait to see how season three will go with new characters, and the few we were introduced to in season two.

New Villains Raise the Stakes
Season two also introduces some powerful new enemies. The appearance of Crocodile and his criminal organization Baroque Works raise the stakes significantly, giving the story a darker and more dangerous tone.
Meanwhile, the eccentric and ruthless Wapol brings chaos to Drum Kingdom, creating the perfect backdrop for one of the season’s most emotional storylines.

The Arrival of Tony Tony Chopper
Of course, the biggest highlight of the season is the introduction of the Straw Hat Pirates’ newest crew member: Tony Tony Chopper!
The final episodes focusing on Chopper’s backstory were easily my favourites of the season. Seeing how the show brought his story to life — his loneliness, his struggles, and ultimately his place among the Straw Hats — was incredibly moving. It gave the character real emotional weight, making his introduction feel meaningful rather than just another addition to the crew.
I also gained a lot of respect for Chopper’s voice actor, Mikaela Hoover. In my opinion, she captures Chopper’s personality perfectly, balancing his innocence, humour, and emotional depth in a way that makes the character truly come alive.

A Moment That Hit Hard
One episode that really stood out emotionally was the one involving Laboon. That story hit me much harder than I expected — it was one of those moments that reminds you how One Piece can switch from fun adventure to heartfelt storytelling in an instant. I’ll admit it: it genuinely made me cry so much.
Remembering Laboon’s story from the manga and anime makes it hit so much harder, and the production team really hit the nail on that, they were able to capture the bond between Laboon and the Rumbar Pirates amazingly, the hurt and agony Laboon has been in for so many years since his friends had to leave him behind for his own protection, and not truly knowing what happened to them.

Familiar Faces Return
Another fun surprise early in the season was the return of Buggy and Alvida in the first episode. Their chaotic energy instantly adds a sense of fun and unpredictability to the story. Buggy’s over-the-top personality and constant scheming remain just as entertaining as ever, while Alvida brings her own confident, ruthless edge that balances their dynamic nicely.
Seeing the two of them working together again reminds viewers that the world of One Piece is full of characters whose stories continue even when the Straw Hats sail on to the next island. Their return also helps tie the seasons together, making the world feel more connected rather than simply moving from one isolated adventure to the next.
It’s a small part of the season overall, but their appearance is a great reminder that some rivals don’t disappear so easily, and that their paths with Luffy and the Straw Hats may cross again in the future.

Final Thoughts
Season 2 of the live-action One Piece proves that the series is more than capable of handling the growing scale of the story. With new islands, stronger villains, fantastic casting, and emotional storytelling, the show continues to capture the spirit that made the original so beloved.
And with Tony Tony Chopper finally joining the crew, the Straw Hat Pirates feel more complete than ever. If the series keeps delivering this level of adventure, humour, and heart, the journey ahead looks incredibly exciting.
